The most important celebration of HM The King's Birthday in Bangkok takes place around Ratchadamnoen Avenue and the Grand Palace, with decorations and lights starting the pilgrimage to the Sanam Luang field, where a festival celebrating Thai culture and music celebrates the life of the world’s longest serving monarch.
The King of Thailand, His Majesty Bhumibol Adulyadej, is revered throughout the country, given almost God like status. It is true that the Thai’s truly love their King and Queen, and to show disrespect to the Royal Family will almost certainly not make you any friends, and insulting them can in fact land you in trouble with the law!
