Venice of the East

In days gone by Bangkok used to often be referred to as the "Venice of the East", and klongs (canals) provided one of the main forms of transport around the city.  As development took place many of the canals have been replaced with roads to cater for Bangkok ever increasing population and their vehicles.  The older generation remember a quieter time where Bangkok was home to much fewer people and river prawns could be pulled from the waterways.
